Jump into Skating (brand new skater information)
WHAT IS JUMP INTO SKATING?
Jump Into Skating is the name of our skating program for first time skaters.
This program is available to skaters of all ages and abilities that want to learn the basics of skating.
Skaters are assessed and grouped into a class based on their age and skating ability.
There are skates available to borrow for classes. Please arrive early to your first class if you are in need of skates, so that we can assist you with obtaining & trying on skates.
WHEN?
Jump into Skating class is a once weekly, 1/2 hour class.
Historically classes have been held on Wednesday nights from 6:15pm - 6:45pm.
Classes run early October through mid February (about 18 weeks of classes).
If your skater chooses to participate in our annual Ice Show once the season is done, they will attend Ice Show class practices until the Ice Show in March.
Skaters can utilize OPEN ICE times throughout the week to work on their skills independently.
Skaters can also choose to seek out a private coach to schedule, and pay for one-on-one lessons.
COST
There is a $24 fee that covers the weekly classes for the entire season (October - February).
VOLUNTEER HOURS
All Jump Into Skating families are required to volunteer 12 hours for the season.
- 2 hours in concessions
- 10 hours "other" - rink set up, concessions, committee work, public skate, special events, etc.
There is a buyout option ($360 - if paid before 11/01) if you are unable / unwilling to volunteer. This fee increases if paid late, if hours are not completed, or if you no-show your scheduled hours.
If your skater participates in the annual Ice Show, you will be required to volunteer at 2 out of the 3 shows. There is no buyout option for Ice Show hours.
FUNDRAISING
There is one mandatory fundraiser (Holiday Wreath Sale) each season. There is a buyout option if you are unable / unwilling to participate.
- 1 skater: sell 3 wreaths or $50 buyout
- Multi-family: sell 6 wreaths or $75 buyout
We have multiple other optional fundraisers throughout the season.
Some of the optional fundraisers are done with hockey to help support the "Rink Fund" to help with rink costs, upkeep, maintenance, etc..
Some of the optional fundraisers can directly benefit your skater and reduce the cost of future classes / registration fees for your skater as a percentage of the proceeds gets credited to your skater's account.
ICE SHOW
There is a $40 fee if your skater chooses to participate in the annual Ice Show at the end of the season. This fee helps cover coaching, props, costumes, etc..
If your skater participates in the Ice Show you will be required to volunteer at 2 out of the 3 shows (There is no buyout option for this)
COOKIE WALK / HOLIDAY EXHIBITION
Our annual Cookie Walk / Holiday Exhibition is a free event that is open to the public.
This event is held on a Wednesday night in December.
Skaters have the opportunity to invite friends and family to watch them skate and show off the skills that they have learned.
They will work with their coach to choreograph a class routine during class time, the week prior to this event.
There will be a sign-up for skaters who want the opportunity to skate a solo / duet / trio / etc.
Each skating family is asked to donate 2 dozen cookies, treats, bars per skater (max 6 dozen).
Cookies and chili are sold to the attendees of this event as a fundraiser.
